There is a Forest

The Dems and the NY Times have both a September 10th mentality and an unusual ability to not see the forest through the trees.

First let's put the 380 tons of explosives in the proper context.

Over on Polipundit a reader states the following:

The New York Times today discusses the “missing” 380 tons of explosives from Iraq however does not put that in perspective. In approximately 18 months, 110,000 tons have been destroyed and 138,000 tons have been secured. The unaccounted 380 tons of explosives are less than 1/10th of 1%. Further, the New York Times states, albeit buried in the article, “By late 2003, diplomats said, arms agency experts had obtained commercial satellite photos of Al Qaqaa showing that two of roughly 10 bunkers that contained HMX appeared to have been leveled by titanic blasts, apparently during the war. They presumed some of the HMX had exploded, but that is unclear.

Other HMX bunkers were untouched. Some were damaged, but not devastated. I.A.E.A. experts say they assume that just before the invasion the Iraqis followed their standard practice of moving crucial explosives out of buildings, so they would not be tempting targets. If so, the experts say, the Iraqi must have broken seals from the arms agency on bunker doors and moved most of the HMX to nearby fields, where it would have been lightly camouflaged - and ripe for looting.” The ground forces in Iraq should be proud of this success as it is a historic achievement.

Every soldier serving today, understands that John Kerry’s comments on this issue are additional insults to those that are serving. Those of us in uniform are thankful that George W. Bush did learn the lesson of Vietnam and is not micro-managing like Robert McNamara.
The Kerry Spot over on NRO has more.

Wizbang examines how many trucks it would take to move the amount outlined in the Times. The Times said 40 trucks but a reasonable person would conclude more likely from 4 to 10 trucks could have hauled to the desert (as is their M.O.) what wasn't blown up.

So, less than 1/10th of 1% of the known explosives are missing. I wish any government agency could account for their funds to that degree of accuracy.

Jim Miklaszewski of NBC News pretty much dismantled the New York Times attack on behalf of Kerry today.
NBC News: Miklaszewski: “April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al Qakaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now missing. The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX, so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a nuclear weapon. In a letter this month, the Iraqi interim government told the International Atomic Energy Agency the high explosives were lost to theft and looting due to lack of security. Critics claim there were simply not enough U.S. troops to guard hundreds of weapons stockpiles, weapons now being used by insurgents and terrorists to wage a guerrilla war in Iraq.” (NBC’s “Nightly News,” 10/25/04)
Next how about "stealing elections"?

I have read and heard over and over again how the republicans are the party that tries to suppress the vote. How we use intimidation. Admittedly I have only been voting since 1980 but in that time I have not read any verified story of wide spread intimidation.

On the other hand we have seen massive voter fraud and a constant fight by the left against limiting the right to vote to American citizens. 8 of the 19 hijackers that conducted the attacks on 9/11 were registered to vote. In the early 90's the motor voter act was passed that required states to register anyone getting a drivers license and allow people to register by mail without any proper identification.

Now they want to be able to use provisional ballots to be able to vote many times in one county. Fortunately even the liberal Florida Supreme court understood that allowing this would be unmanageable and open the election up to unprecedented fraud.

I will never understand a party that doesn't want to secure the voting process so every vote will count once and only once. Hell there are reports around the country of people being registered in more than one state. Check out Hobbsonline for a complete list of voter fraud stories.

Only a pre 9/11 mindset would still insist that anyone can vote with just a shake and a nod. The democratic party has never been for every vote counts unless it also included the deceased, tv characters, and people in comas.

Even when the irregularities occur they seem to happen disproportionately in counties run by democrats. Anecdotal report after anecdotal report in 2000 happened in democratic run counties. But the dems still go around saying the a million blacks were disenfranchised in 2000. Just because they keep lying about it doesn't mean it happened.

The only major party in the United States that is for securing each citizens right to vote and ensure that each vote is not deluded by voter fraud is the Republican party.

The dems are absolutely shameless in their attempts to scare the black populace into believing the Republicans want to suppress their vote. During my 22 years in the US Navy I worked for minorities, with minorities and in charge of minorities. I have never found any minorities that were as stupid as the democratic party makes them out to be. The truth is they are as intelligent as any in the skill they choose.

With the explosion of the internet the democratic party is finding it harder and harder to lie with a straight face. They can no longer expect to continue oppressing minorities with laws that are designed to keep people dependent on the government. The truth about school vouchers, partial birth abortions, faith based initiatives, and the out and out attack on Christianity is now obvious to anyone who can read. The truth is powerful and the dems time on the liberal bank of the main stream will be coming to an end soon.

I'm not saying that the far right is the place to be, but if the dems don't get out of their pre-911/"government is the only solution" mentality and swing toward the center then their days are numbered.
